Any way to make my preferrered view sticky?

Brand new customer here. Immediate wish - that the program window would stay on the view I last left it on. Every time I copy or move files I have to press "expanded view" then "status" (if there's time) to get the graphical speed/progress bar I'm oh so used to with Windows. If this view was sticky I'd be much much happier with the customization options.
